Ages: Typically 7th-8th graders. Birthdate requirements are communicated with each registration. ELA adheres to US Lacrosse age guidelines.
As with all of our programs, our goal is for our players to enjoy lacrosse, while working on team work and lacrosse skills at the same time. Focus is on lacrosse skill development, particularly stick skills, fundamentals of game play and overall lacrosse IQ. At the 14U age level, we gear player development on specific positions - Attack, Midi, Modified Long Pole Defense, Defense and Goalie. We focus on getting players prepared to eventually play high school lacrosse if interested. Game play is on a full sized field - 9 v 9 plus a goalie. ELA will provide additional training to players willing to be full-time goalies - goalie equipment can be borrowed from ELA (throat guard, chest pad, goalie stick, etc.).
Spring Indoor Box Lacrosse Season February to May:
Because of the fast pace and high number of passes and plays players are involved in Box Lacrosse, ELA has incorporated Box Lacrosse into its core player development programs.
The season runs from February to April and will include weekly games on Saturdays or Sundays (will require some travel in the Twin Cities Metro) and weekly practices.
Registration launches in late November or early December usually.
Main Outdoor Field Season April to July: The main season is our spring/summer program.
At the 14U level, players are expected to treat lacrosse as their primary sport during the spring/summer season and attend practices and games regularly.
Starts in late March/early April and runs through July
involves 1-2 evening practices per week, plus 1-2 games within the Twin Cities metro (half are generally home games). Generally, a 3-4 night commitment.
Evaluations will happen pre-season to determine the roster for 1 A-Level Team and a few balanced B-Level Teams. In order to be considered for an A-Level Team, players and their parents must sign a player commitment agreement to ensure excellent show-up rates for practices and games.
GNLL spring league participation- in May- 2 games on weekends
YLM summer league participation-10 games total are played between June and July on weeknights (Monday-Thursday)
Tournaments: There will be 1 or 2 weekend tournaments during the season. Registration fees for these tournaments are typically included in the summer program registration, though some tournaments may require additional registration and fee.
Registration launches in late November or early December usually.
Fall Outdoor Season September to October:
The fall program can vary. It may be a weekly clinic format, or it may be a fall travel league.
Registration generally launches in June/July for the upcoming fall.
Winter Indoor Season November to January:
The winter program is a weekly clinic to keep players engaged in lacrosse - generally Sunday afternoons
Registration generally launches in early November.
Practice Players - There may be an option for 12U players new to lacrosse, depending upon interest level. Practice Players are part of a travel team, but they only participate in practices.
