2025 12U BOYS SUMMER LACROSSE PROGRAM - Registration Open Now!

Deadline to Register February 17th!

New changes to our 12U program as of 2025!

1) Evaluation process has changed- instead of a fixed 2 day evaluation, non-parent coaches will evaluate players during April and May practices, providing evaluation and feedback for all players. Our coaches recognize that this is a better way for the players to be placed appropriately. Team placement will be announced by May 18th at the latest.

2)  We will be offering pre-season clinics in March. Register early so you can make the March clinics!

OVERVIEW

ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME FROM BEGINNER TO ADVANCED!

All players will placed be on a team - generally we have 1, 12UA team and 1-2, 12UB teams.

Teams generally practice 2 weeknights per week.  Some coaches may schedule extra weeknight practices depending on game schedules and coaches/players availability.

League play is anticipated to start as early as June 2, and end the last week of July. Games are played on weeknight evenings Monday through Thursday with about half the games being AWAY games. 12U State Tournament games run through the weekend of July 26-27.

A local weekend tournament is also planned June 6-8 in Shakopee.  And we may have some opportunities for a few weekend scrimmages as we gear up for the season.  See more details below about tournaments.

PRACTICE PLAYER OPTION (does not participate in games):

If your player is new to lacrosse and wants to learn the skills but not participate in competitive game play, being a Practice Player might be an option for him.  Keep in mind, though, that we have several new players at the 12U age level, so it’s definitely OK to be a beginner and participate in games.  Please contact our VP of Boys (vpboys@edinalacrosse.com) if interested in the Practice Player option.  Registration fee is adjusted for Practice Players.

UNIFORMS- reusing 2024 uniforms

Registration fees do not include uniforms.

Returning players- you may wear last year's 2024 uniforms. No need to order a new uniform from Squad Locker unless you want to. We will use the same jersey numbers assigned last year.

New Players- Upon Registration, you will be assigned a jersey number and loaded into the Squad Locker Uniform system (please allow 1-3 business days to be loaded into the Squad Locker system before you can order.) You will purchase your uniform directly from Squad Locker, and it will be sent directly to your house.  Rush fees will be added onto the cost of the uniform the closer we get to the start of the season so order ASAP.

Required Uniform Pieces ($96.90):

1 jersey $55.95

1 pair of shorts $39.95

1. Practices are generally 1 1/2 hours long,  2 to 3 times per week, in the evenings Monday to Thursday:

  • April- Practices are not mandatory but highly recommended. Non-parent coaches will begin the evaluation process with the April practices. 2-3 nights per week.
  • May-July- 80% attendance required at all practices. Coaches will track attendance.

2. EVALUATIONS:  Non-parent coaches will evaluate players during the April practice sessions through the first two weeks of May. It is highly advised that you attend as many practices during that time frame so that coaches can get an accurate picture for proper team placement.  Coaches will provide feedback for all players.

Our league, Youth Lacrosse MN (YLM), requires (1) A-Team and balanced B-Teams at the Boys 12U Age Level.  Every player will be on a team!

More details will be sent about evaluations after registration closes.

  • Team Manager (1 per team).  This is a team’s communication liaison between the coach and parents, plans tournament needs/communications, ensures game volunteers are assigned and plans in-season and end-of-season fun. Please note your interest in this position during your registration.  Training will be provided.

  • Parents interested in assisting coaches are also welcome!  If interested, please note on your registration. Lacrosse experience is helpful, but not necessary. New volunteer assistant coaches will be paired with experienced program and head coaches.

BOYS 12U GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • Ages: Typically 5th-6th graders.  Birthdate requirements are communicated with each registration.  ELA adheres to US Lacrosse age guidelines.
  • As with all of our programs, our goal is for our players to enjoy lacrosse, while working on team work and lacrosse skills at the same time.  Focus is on lacrosse skill development, particularly stick skills, fundamentals of game play and overall lacrosse IQ.  Also, at the 12U age level, we gear player development on specific positions - Attack, Midi, Modified Long Pole Defense, Defense and Goalie.   It's a transition year - game play is on a full sized field - 9 v 9 plus a goalie.  ELA will generally provide additional training to players willing to be full-time goalies - goalie equipment can be borrowed from ELA (throat guard, chest pad, goalie stick, etc.).
  • Spring Box Lacrosse Season:  Because of the fast pace and high number of passes and plays players are involved in Box Lacrosse, ELA has incorporated Box Lacrosse into its core player development programs.  The season, starting late February and running through early April, will include weekly games on Saturdays or Sundays (will require some travel in the Twin Cities Metro) and weekly practices.  Registration launches in early December. More information about bos lacrosse can be found here: https://www.edinalacrosse.com/boxlacrosse
  • Main Season:  The main season is our spring/summer program.  There are 2 options for 12U players:
    • Travel League - starts in May and runs through July; involves 1-2 evening practices per week, plus 1-2 games within the Twin Cities metro (half are generally home games).  Generally a 3-4 night commitment.
      • Evaluations will happen pre-season to determine the roster for 1 A-Level Team and a few balanced B-Level Teams.  In order to be considered for an A-Level Team, players and their parents must sign a player commitment agreement to ensure excellent show-up rates for practices and games.
    • Practice Players - may be an option for 12U players new to lacrosse, depending upon interest level.  Practice Players are part of a travel team, but they only participate in practices.  Geared for players who are interested in learning more about lacrosse but not ready for the commitment of a travel team.
    • Registration generally launches in January for the upcoming summer.
    • Uniforms required and ordered separately via a Squad Locker link to be sent out to registered players when registration closes.
    • Tournaments: There will be 1 or 2 weekend tournaments during the season. Registration fees for these tournaments are typically included in the summer program registration, though some tournaments may require additional registration and fee.
  • Fall Season:  The fall program can vary.  It may be a weekly clinic format, or it may be a fall travel league.  Registration generally launches in June/July for the upcoming fall.
  • Winter Season: The winter program is a weekly clinic to keep players engaged in lacrosse.  Registration generally launches in early November.
  • Full Lacrosse Equipment Required: lacrosse helmets, mouth guards, chest pads with shoulder guards, elbow pads, gloves, cup, cleats, stick, water bottle.
  • Coaches:  Head Coaches generally Post-College Coaches.  Assistants may be Post-College, College and/or EHS Boys Lacrosse Team Members.  Parents are always welcome assist coaches - training provided.
  • Requires US Lacrosse membership current and valid through end of the season

sponsors needed!

The Edina Lacrosse Association (ELA) is reaching out to local businesses and community members to seek your support as a sponsor for the upcoming season. As a nonprofit organization, ELA relies on generous donations to provide a positive experience for our players and ensure they have the necessary resources to excel both on and off the field.

How You Can Help:

We are seeking sponsorships to fund the purchase of shooter shirts for our players. These shirts are a vital part of their training, helping to promote team unity and a sense of pride in their involvement with Edina Lacrosse.

Sponsor Benefits:

  • Your Business Name on the Shirt: As a sponsor, your company’s name or logo will be proudly displayed on the shooter shirts worn by all players, providing exposure to families and fans throughout the season.

  • Tax Deductible Contribution: ELA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so your sponsorship donation is tax-deductible.

  • Community Recognition: Your sponsorship will help make a direct impact on our youth athletes and support the growth of lacrosse in the Edina community.

Join us in supporting our players and building a stronger community through lacrosse. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor or learning more about the opportunities available, please don't hesitate to reach out to John Potter at president@edinalacrosse.com.

Thank you for your consideration and support!
