2022-2023 AGE GUIDELINES
Effective 9/1/22 through 8/31/23

To choose the program your player is eligible to play, find their birth date in the date ranges below.

Kindergarten Program:  Current & Incoming Kindergarteners
 8U House & Travel Program:  9/1/2014 - 8/31/2016
10U Program:  9/1/2012 - 8/31/2014
12U Program:  9/1/2010 - 8/31/2012
14U Program:  6/1/2008 - 8/31/2010
*6/1 cut-off date is for current 8th graders only, although all 8th graders can play. 
Current 9th graders are not allowed to play on a 14U team per league rules, but some of our offseason programming will include 9th graders.

USA LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

An USA Lacrosse Membership is required for our programs.  When registering, our system validates USA Lacrosse Memberships.  Please make sure your player's name, zip code and date of birth match what you used when signing up for your USA Lacrosse Membership.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES

8U TRAVEL: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH -  INCLUDING SEPARATE UNIFORM ORDER IF NEEDED

8U HOUSE: FRIDAY, MARCH 17TH (NO SEPARATE UNIFORM ORDER REQUIRED)

UNIFORMS

Uniform ordering is different for 8U Travel and 8U House.

8U TRAVEL UNIFORMS

Last summer’s uniforms will be used again this season. If you do not have a uniform from last summer, you can order through our uniform provider through a separate order. 

  • NOTE:  some of you may have joined our fall or winter 2022 clinics or box lacrosse 2023 - if so, the jersey you received is probably OK for this upcoming summer, but you may want to order shorts.  If questions, please contact Kelly Rhodes at jkerhodes@msn.com.

  • The ordering deadline for uniforms is also Friday, 2/17/23. All details, including fitting information and the ordering link, can be found at https://www.edinalacrosse.com/uniforms2023.  

8U HOUSE UNIFORMS

Each player will receive a uniform at the beginning of the season, which ELA will order in bulk.  No individual orders should be placed.

IMPORTANT!

All players must be using NOCSAE certified chest pads for the prevention of Commotio Cordis, per USA Lacrosse rules effective 1/1/22. Players will not be allowed to play if they do not have the required chest pads. The new chest pads are available locally and online at various sporting goods and lacrosse retailers. GENERAL SEASON SCHEDULE

8U TRAVEL PROGRAM
Practices will start the first week of May. Teams generally practice 2 weeknights per week at Wooddale Park. Some coaches may schedule extra weeknight practices depending on game schedules and coaches’/players’ availability.

League play is anticipated to start as early as Thursday, June 1st and end the last week of July. Game schedules will be known at the end of May.  The 6 games are played on weeknight evenings Monday through Thursday with half the games being AWAY games. The 8U End-of-Season Jamboree games run through the weekend of July 22nd and 23rd.

A local weekend tournament is also planned the weekend of June 9th in Shakopee.  And we may have some opportunities for a few weekend scrimmages as we gear up for the season.

8U HOUSE PROGRAM

Runs for 8 weeks, starting the first Week of June. Teams will practice 2 weeknights per week, generally on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Program is focused on players learning core lacrosse skills in fall small group rotations, leading to intra-program team scrimmages starting late June and throughout July.  Location is usually Wooddale Park, but we are still finalizing the location with Edina Parks.

8U TRAVEL PROGRAM ADDITIONAL DETAILS

TOURNAMENTS

Each 8U Travel team will participate in an additional Twin Cities Metro weekend tournament during the season. The 8U Travel Team registration fee covers the cost of a tournament. Currently we anticipate participating again in the Shakopee River Valley Rumble tournament, the weekend of June 9-11, 2023. More details will be shared once finalized.

SEASON TIMELINE OVERVIEW

1.  PRACTICES START THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY

Practices will be 2 weeknights per week - 1 hour per practice.  May schedules will be available after registration closes and the number of teams and coaches has been determined.  June and July practice schedules will be determined in late May after the June/July game schedules have been announced by the league.

2.  PRESEASON SCRIMMAGES

During May, we will look for opportunities to do some preseason scrimmages with other area lacrosse associations.  More details to come.

3.  REGULAR SEASON GAME PLAY - JUNE & JULY

Regular season games will occur in June and July.  The schedule will be announced in late May by the league.  

  • The first game could be as early as Thursday, June 1st.

  • Expect 1-2 games per week - some in Edina, some in other areas of the Twin Cities.  Games are scheduled on weeknight evenings Mon-Thu. 8U will have 6 regular season games.  3 will be home games.

  • Around the July 4th holiday, YLM will schedule no games during the week of July 3-7. Games will resume Monday, July 10.

  • 8U Travel teams will participate in the end of season YLM jamboree based upon family and coach availability the weekend of July 22nd. Teams may be consolidated and/or reorganized depending on availability.

8U TRAVEL:  $325*

*A payment plan is offered at sign up that will allow you to make 3 equal payments at registration and in March & April (NOTE:  a 3.15% transaction fee of the full registration amount + $1.50 service fee is added to each payment).

  • Edina Park & Rec per-player fees and field costs

  • End-of-season 8U Jamboree

8U HOUSE:  $200

Please review the refund policy below before registering your player.

In addition to the Edina Lacrosse Association registration fee, a USA Lacrosse Membership is required and must be valid through AUGUST 1, 2023.  If you do not have current USA Lacrosse Membership CLICK HERE to go to USA Lacrosse and enroll or renew.

  • Kindergarten players have a reduced fee for the USA Lacrosse Membership.

  • When you register, these items must match your USA Lacrosse Membership:

    • Your player's name.  If you did not use a Middle Name in your USA Lacrosse Membership, do not enter a Middle Name in our registration.  If you did use a Middle Name or Initial in your USA Lacrosse Membership, enter it the same in our registration.

    • Your mailing address. 

    • Your player’s birth date. 

GEAR

Full protective equipment is required per USA Lacrosse:  lacrosse helmet, non-tethered mouth guard, chest protector NOCSAE certified for the prevention of commotio cordis, elbow pads, gloves, protective cup, cleats, water bottle, and lacrosse stick for position. 

REMINDER: Chest protectors must be NOCSAE certified for the prevention of commotio cordis as of 1/1/22.  Please see details at  https://www.edinalacrosse.com/boyslacrossegear.

FAMILY VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT

Edina Lacrosse Association is a non-profit volunteer run organization. Without family volunteers, we cannot function.  Each summer season one adult family member from each family must volunteer at least one time for at least one of the following:

  • Team Manager (1 per 8U Travel team and 1 for the 8U House program).  This is a team’s communication liaison between the coach and parents, plans tournament needs/communications, ensures game volunteers are assigned and plans in-season and end-of-season fun. Please note your interest in this position during your registration.  Training will be provided.

  • Parents interested in assisting coaches are also welcome!  If interested, please note on your registration. Lacrosse experience is helpful, but not necessary. New volunteer assistant coaches will be paired with experienced program and head coaches.

  • Scoreboard operator during home games and scrimmages (ALL families, on rotation)

  • Game clock operator during home games and scrimmages (ALL families, on rotation)

  • Field set-up for home games (ALL families, on rotation)

  • Field close-down for home games (ALL families, on rotation)

  • “Chill” side-line managers (ALL families, on rotation)

EDINA LACROSSE ASSOCIATION REFUND POLICY

Up until a program registration closes, the Edina Lacrosse Association (ELA) will give consideration to written requests for withdrawal and refund. In all cases, ELA will retain a processing fee for incurred costs from the web provider registration service and administrative costs. After a program registration has closed, no refunds or cancellations will be given except in the case of injury or similar extenuating circumstances which prevents practice and game participation, and then only by approval of the Edina Lacrosse Association Board of Directors.

No refunds will be given in the event of program session(s) cancellation(s) due to weather, facilities cancellations or other situations beyond the control of ELA‚Äč.

USA LACROSSE REQUIREMENT

For this registration, a USA Lacrosse Membership is required and must be valid through AUGUST 1, 2023.   When you register, your player's name, address and birthdate must match exactly to your USA Lacrosse Membership; if not, you'll receive an error message.

Remember to register EACH of your players with USA Lacrosse. Each player must have their own unique US Lacrosse Membership Number.

BOYS 8U PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Ages: Typically 1st and 2nd graders.  Birthdate requirements are communicated with each registration.  ELA adheres to US Lacrosse age guidelines.
  • As with all of our programs, our goal is for our players to enjoy lacrosse, while working on team work and lacrosse skills at the same time.  Focus is on basic lacrosse skill development, particularly stick skills and fundamentals of game play.  Games are played 5 v 5 with no goalie.  
  • Main Season:  The main season is our spring/summer program.  
    • Travel League - starts in May and runs through July; involves 2 evening practices per week, plus a game with the Twin Cities metro (half are generally home games).  6 games total are played between June and July.  Tournaments are also offered, which are optional with separate registrations/fees.
    • Registration generally launches in January for the upcoming summer.  Fees vary each year.
    • Edina Uniforms provided and included in registration fees.
  • Fall Season:  Generally, several new players enter the 8U program in the fall since the fall is when the new birth date guidelines go into effect.  The fall program can vary.  It may be a weekly clinic format, or it may be a fall travel league.  Registration generally launches in June/July for the upcoming fall.
  • Winter Season: The winter program is a weekly clinic to keep players engaged in lacrosse - generally Sunday afternoons in January and February.  Registration generally launches in early November.
  • Full Lacrosse Equipment Required: lacrosse helmets, mouth guards, chest pads with shoulder guards, elbow pads, gloves, cup, cleats, stick, water bottle.
  • Experienced coaches.  Will ask for parent volunteers as assistant coaches and team managers.
  • Requires US Lacrosse membership current and valid through end of the season
