USA LACROSSE AGE LEVEL GUIDELINES

NEW 2021-2022 AGE GUIDELINES
Effective 9/1/21 through 8/31/22

To choose the program your player is eligible to play, find their birth date in the date ranges below.

Kindergarten Program:  Current & Incoming Kindergarteners
 8U House & Travel Program:  9/1/2013 - 8/31/2015
10U Program:  9/1/2011 - 8/31/2013
12U Program:  9/1/2009 - 8/31/2011
14U Program:  6/1/2007 - 8/31/2009
*6/1 cut-off date is for current 8th graders only, although all 8th graders can play. 
Current 9th graders are not allowed to play on a 14U team per league rules, but some of our offseason programming will include 9th graders.

USA LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

An USA Lacrosse Membership is required for our programs.  When registering, our system validates USA Lacrosse Memberships.  Please make sure your player's name, zip code and date of birth match what you used when signing up for your USA Lacrosse Membership.

8U HOUSE PROGRAM ACTIVE REGISTRATIONS

BOYS 8U SPRING/SUMMER 2022 PROGRAMS

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
TUESDAY, 2/15/2022, for 8U TRAVEL
TUESDAY, 3/15/2022, for 8U HOUSE

UNIFORMS:

Registration fees include uniforms for this season. Uniform ordering is different for 8U Travel and 8U House:

8U TRAVEL UNIFORMS: Ordering deadline is Tuesday, 2/15/22.  All details, including fitting event information and the ordering link, can be found at https://www.edinalacrosse.com/uniforms2022

8U HOUSE UNIFORMS:  Each player will get a uniform at the beginning of the season, which ELA will order in bulk.  No individual orders should be placed.

GENERAL SEASON SCHEDULE:

8U TRAVEL PROGRAM
Practices will start the first week of May.  Teams generally practice 2 weeknights per week at Wooddale Park.  Some coaches may schedule extra weeknight practices depending on game schedules and coaches’/players’ availability.

League play is anticipated to start in early June and end the last week of July.  Game schedules will be known at the end of May. Games are played on weeknight evenings - 6 games total - 3 will be at home (Wooddale) and 3 away.

8U HOUSE PROGRAM 
Runs for 8 weeks, starting the first week of June. Teams will practice 2 weeknights per week at Wooddale Park, generally Mondays and Tuesdays. Program is focused on players learning core lacrosse skills in small group rotations, leading to game scrimmages later in June and throughout July.

IMPORTANT!

  • All players must be using NOCSAE certified chest pads for the prevention of Commotio Cordis, per USA Lacrosse rules effective 1/1/22.  More details can be found at https://www.edinalacrosse.com/boyslacrossegear.  Players will not be allowed to play if they do not have the required chest pads.  You can purchase the new chest pads online at lacrossemonkey.com, amazon.com, dickssportinggoods.com, and other lacrosse retailers.  The local lacrosse shops have had very low to no inventory. 

TOURNAMENTS - 8U TRAVEL ONLY 

Each 8U Travel Team will participate in an additional Twin Cities Metro weekend tournament during the season.  The 8U Travel Team registration fee covers the cost of a tournament.  More details will be shared once finalized.

*A payment plan is offered at sign up that will allow you to make 3 equal payments - at registration and in March & April (NOTE:  a 3.15% transaction fee of the full registration amount + $1.50 service fee is added to each payment).

8U HOUSE:  $200

Please review the refund policy below before registering your player.

In addition to the Edina Lacrosse Association registration fee, a USA Lacrosse Membership is required and must be valid through AUGUST 1, 2022.   When you register, your player's name, address and birth date must match your US Lacrosse Membership; if not, you'll receive an error message.

GEAR

Full protective equipment is required per USA Lacrosse:  lacrosse helmet, non-tethered mouth guard, chest protector NOCSAE certified for the prevention of commotio cordis, elbow pads, gloves, protective cup, cleats, water bottle, and lacrosse stick for position. ELA will lend out goalie equipment - throat guard, chest protector, goalie stick to interested players signing up to play goalie.

REMINDER: Chest protectors must be NOCSAE certified for the prevention of commotio cordis as of 1/1/22.  Please see details at  https://www.edinalacrosse.com/boyslacrossegear.

FAMILY VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT

Edina Lacrosse Association is a non-profit volunteer run organization. Without family volunteers, we cannot function.  Each summer season one adult family member from each family must volunteer at least one time for at least one of the following:

  • Team Manager (1 per team).  This is a team’s communication liaison between the coach and parents. If you’re good with texts and emails, please note your interest in this position during your registration.  Training will be provided.

  • Parents interested in assisting coaches are also welcome!  If interested, please note on your registration. Lacrosse experience is helpful, but not necessary. New volunteer assistant coaches will be paired with experienced program and head coaches.

  • Behind the scenes tournament help

  • Other behind the scenes help or coordination activities

  • Scoreboard operator during home games and scrimmages (ALL families, on rotation)

  • Game clock operator during home games and scrimmages (ALL families, on rotation)

  • Field set-up (ALL families, on rotation)

  • Field close-down (ALL families, on rotation)

  • “Chill” side-line managers (ALL families, on rotation)

BOYS 8U HOUSE PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Ages: Typically 1st and 2nd graders.  Birthdate requirements are communicated with each registration.  ELA adheres to US Lacrosse age guidelines.
  • As with all of our programs, our goal is for our players to enjoy lacrosse, while working on team work and lacrosse skills at the same time.  Focus is on basic lacrosse skill development, particularly stick skills and fundamentals of game play.  Games are played 5 v 5 with no goalie.  
  • Main Season:  The main season is our summer program.  
    • House League - starts in early June and runs through July - 8-week session; involves 2 evening sessions per week, including practice time and in-house scrimmages.   
    • Registration generally launches in January for the upcoming summer.  Fees vary each year.
    • Edina Uniforms provided and included in registration fees.
    • Players interested in more competition and a longer season may also wish to consider the 8U Travel Program.
  • Fall Season:  Generally, several new players enter the 8U program in the fall since the fall is when the new birth date guidelines go into effect.  The fall program can vary.  It may be a weekly clinic format, or it may be a fall travel league.  Registration generally launches in June/July for the upcoming fall.
  • Winter Season: The winter program is a weekly clinic to keep players engaged in lacrosse - generally Sunday afternoons in January and February.  Registration generally launches in early November.
  • Full Lacrosse Equipment Required: lacrosse helmets, mouth guards, chest pads with shoulder guards, elbow pads, gloves, cup, cleats, stick, water bottle.
  • Experienced coaches.  Will ask for parent volunteers as assistant coaches and team managers.
  • Requires US Lacrosse membership current and valid through end of the season
