6U BOYS LEAGUE

6U Boys is a new program offering for 2025!

Players entering 1st grade have two great options to choose from:

Kindergarten Program (also open to PreK who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall):

  • Non-contact so players do not need to wear helmets and pads
  • No separate uniform purchase - players will be given a t-shirt first day of practice
  • Do not need to purchase a lacrosse stick- participants will be given a beginner "fiddlestick" the first day of practice

6U Program (Only open to players who will be starting 1st grade in the fall- younger players who have already done a non-contact Kindergarten session with ELA may submit a Play Up Request ):

  • Players will begin learning contact lacrosse so helmet and pads are required that you must purchase separately
  • Will require purchasing an ELA uniform set (jersey and shorts)
  • Will require a junior sized lacrosse stick purchased separately.
  • Cost is higher since it is a longer season and may participate in league games with other associations

Registration for our 2025 Spring/Summer program is closed.  To be added to the waitlist at no cost, register here: Crossbar Boys Registration

If there is room on the team, someone from ELA will email you a link to complete payment and roster you to a team.

6U Age Range:

 09/01/2018 to 08/31/2020

Only players entering 1st grade or younger players who have already done an ELA Kindergarten session and have submitted a Play Up Request

2025 is the first year we are offering a contact, padded 6u program! Registration Open Now

Deadline to Register February 17th!

Typically, our 6U players have only had the PreK/K non-contact option available. Now, 6U players have the option to begin contact lacrosse with full gear!

Formation of an Edina Lacrosse 6U team will be dependent on the following:

1. Enough interest from Edina 6U players to form a team - we need about 10 -12 players to make it effective.

2. Enough interest from other associations within the YLM league. YLM is still working out details on how the 6U division will run so we do not know how many other associations will have a 6U team.

If you sign up for the 6U program, but the above conditions are not met, we will roll your players into our Boys 8U House program (details can be found here: https://www.edinalacrosse.com/8uhouse

  • Team Manager (1 per 6U Team) . This is a team’s communication liaison between the coach and parents, plans tournament needs/communications, ensures game volunteers are assigned and plans in-season and end-of-season fun. Please note your interest in this position during your registration.  Training will be provided.

  • Parents interested in assisting coaches are also welcome!  If interested, please note on your registration. Lacrosse experience is helpful, but not necessary. New volunteer assistant coaches will be paired with experienced program and head coaches.

  • Field close-down for home games (ALL families, on rotation)

boys 6u general overview

Our 6U boys program is an introductory program that gradually introduces young athletes to the basics of body contact within the game, while ensuring safety and proper technique. Designed specifically for boys aged 5-6, this program allows players to develop their skills in a controlled, fun, and supportive environment, with an emphasis on learning the fundamentals of both the sport and safe contact play.

In this program, players will wear protective gear, including helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and mouthguards, to ensure their safety while engaging in light, non-violent contact. The focus is on teaching young athletes how to use their bodies effectively to shield the ball, protect their teammates, and gain possession in a safe manner, all while understanding the importance of playing within the rules and respecting others.

Key Aspects of 6U Contact Lacrosse:

  • Basic Contact Introduction: Young players are gradually introduced to body contact techniques such as using their stick to check, positioning for ball protection, and learning how to engage with an opponent in a controlled and non-aggressive way.
  • Safety First: Emphasis on wearing full protective gear and using proper techniques to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Skill Development: Players will continue developing core lacrosse skills such as cradling, passing, catching, and shooting while integrating contact situations, like light checks or positioning for ground balls.
  • Fun & Engaging: The focus remains on making lacrosse fun for young players, encouraging them to enjoy the game while learning new skills, teamwork, and the basics of contact play.
  • Sportsmanship & Respect: Players are taught the importance of fair play, respect for their teammates and opponents, and maintaining control during contact situations.

This 6U contact lacrosse program offers a great foundation for young athletes to get comfortable with the physical aspects of the sport, preparing them for more competitive play as they grow. By focusing on safety, proper technique, and building confidence, players will develop both their athletic abilities and their love for the game in an age-appropriate manner.

sponsors needed!

The Edina Lacrosse Association (ELA) is reaching out to local businesses and community members to seek your support as a sponsor for the upcoming season. As a nonprofit organization, ELA relies on generous donations to provide a positive experience for our players and ensure they have the necessary resources to excel both on and off the field.

How You Can Help:

We are seeking sponsorships to fund the purchase of shooter shirts for our players. These shirts are a vital part of their training, helping to promote team unity and a sense of pride in their involvement with Edina Lacrosse.

Sponsor Benefits:

  • Your Business Name on the Shirt: As a sponsor, your company’s name or logo will be proudly displayed on the shooter shirts worn by all players, providing exposure to families and fans throughout the season.

  • Tax Deductible Contribution: ELA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so your sponsorship donation is tax-deductible.

  • Community Recognition: Your sponsorship will help make a direct impact on our youth athletes and support the growth of lacrosse in the Edina community.

Join us in supporting our players and building a stronger community through lacrosse. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor or learning more about the opportunities available, please don't hesitate to reach out to John Potter at president@edinalacrosse.com.

Thank you for your consideration and support!
