Our travel teams will start practices the week of April 29th.  Teams practice 2 weeknights per week.  League play will start in early June and end in late July.  In May, there will be some weekend scrimmage games planned.  Finally, the weekend of June 1st, all 8U Travel teams will participate in the Ice Breaker Tournament in Champlin Park.

SEASON HIGH LEVEL TIMING – 8U HOUSE PROGRAM

The 8U House program will run for 8 weeks, starting the week of June 4, 2019.  They will play 2 weeknights per week at Wooddale Park, generally Mondays and Tuesdays, for hour-long sessions.  Nothing will be planned for the week of July 4th.

IMPORTANT!

  • Player Commitment Statement:   Lacrosse is a team sport.  Player and team development happen successfully when players show up and participate - plus, it's a lot more fun!  We are asking all of our travel team players to sign a Player Commitment Statement as part of registration, committing to attend practices and games and providing enough notice when not able to attend.
  • Bullying Policy:   All registrants will sign off on our Bullying Policy with their registration.  Player and team development and fun are dependent upon our players treating each other and their coaches with respect.

SEASON TIMELINE OVERVIEW – TRAVEL TEAMS:
1.  PRACTICES START THE WEEK OF APRIL 29TH
Practices will be 2 weeknights per week - 1 hour per practice for 8U.  Tentative practice schedules for May will be available after registration closes and approximate number of teams and coaches have been determined.  June and July practice schedules will be determined late May/early June after the June/July game schedules have been announced by the league.

2.  REGULAR SEASON GAME PLAY - JUNE & JULY
Regular season games will occur in June and July.  The schedule will be announced late May/early June by the league.
- The first game could be as early as June 4th.
- Expect 1-2 games per week - some in Edina, some in other areas of the Twin Cities.  Games are scheduled on weeknight evenings.  8U Travel has 6 regular season games.
Generally, games are limited during the week of July 4th.
- 8U Travel will not have an end of season weekend tournament.  ELA will plan some final, fun games at the end of the season, probably the week of July 21st.

1.  SEASON STARTS THE WEEK OF JUNE 4TH
Sessions will be 2 weeknights per week – 1 hour per session – at Wooddale Park.  Generally, these sessions have been on Monday and Tuesday evenings to try and avoid conflicts with Edina Soccer Association for these age levels.

The 8U House format starts the season with practices.  Then, after the first couple of weeks, scrimmages among the 8U House teams will be planned on 1 of the 2 nights each week.

2.  SEASON ENDS THE WEEK OF JULY 29TH (NO SESSIONS THE WEEK OF JULY 4TH)

BOYS 8U PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Ages: Typically 1st and 2nd graders.  Birthdate requirements are communicated with each registration.  ELA adheres to US Lacrosse age guidelines.
  • As with all of our programs, our goal is for our players to enjoy lacrosse, while working on team work and lacrosse skills at the same time.  Focus is on basic lacrosse skill development, particularly stick skills and fundamentals of game play.  Games are played 5 v 5 with no goalie.
  • Main Season:  The main season is our spring/summer program.
    • Travel League - starts in May and runs through July; involves 2 evening practices per week, plus a game with the Twin Cities metro (half are generally home games).  6 games total are played between June and July.  Tournaments are also offered, which are optional with separate registrations/fees.
    • Registration generally launches in January for the upcoming summer.  Fees vary each year.
    • Edina Uniforms provided and included in registration fees.
  • Fall Season:  Generally, several new players enter the 8U program in the fall since the fall is when the new birth date guidelines go into effect.  The fall program can vary.  It may be a weekly clinic format, or it may be a fall travel league.  Registration generally launches in June/July for the upcoming fall.
  • Winter Season: The winter program is a weekly clinic to keep players engaged in lacrosse - generally Sunday afternoons in January and February.  Registration generally launches in early November.
  • Full Lacrosse Equipment Required: lacrosse helmets, mouth guards, chest pads with shoulder guards, elbow pads, gloves, cup, cleats, stick, water bottle.
