SENT TO REGISTERED FAMILIES ON 5/24/2020:

Hello registered Edina Lacrosse families!  Thank you for your patience as our Board of fellow parents and community members awaited additional direction and guidance from the City of Edina and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) related to field play and social distancing.

Effective June 1, 2020, both the City of Edina and MDH have now opened up the option for small group field play for Youth Sports with these restrictions and rules:

  • Must follow social distancing measures by maintaining 6 feet between participants

  • Must be a total group size of 10 or less, this includes coaches, parents or instructors

  • Avoid shared equipment

  • Continue to practice hygiene and other safety practices as recommended by the CDC

  • No games, scrimmages or face to face interaction is allowed

  • No city-provided goals or striping will be on the fields (ELA can bring its own nets as long as there is no game play nor scrimmages, and we remove the nets after each activity)

  • Must inform families of organization’s activity plan and post it on the organization’s website for the public to view

As a result of the additional options available June 1, 2020, our Board has approved moving to Phase 2 of our Return to Play Plan for the summer, with a very detailed Social Distancing Policy.

  • For Boys & Girls 10U/12U/14U Programs and the Boys 8U Travel Program, we will begin on-field small group sessions with social distancing starting the week of June 1, 2020.  In order for players to participate, Parents/Legal Guardians must read and acknowledge our Social Distancing Policy and discuss with their players by Sunday, May 31, 2020.  More specific details about group assignments and schedules will be shared by Hilary Santoni, VP of Girls Programs and Tom Sarbaugh, VP of Boys Programs in the next couple of days.

    • Boys & Girls 12U/14U will continue with supplemental virtual training as well to help foster team development.

  • Girls K/8U, Boys Kindergarten and Boys 8U House will not move forward this season.  This was a very difficult decision for us. However, due to the 6-feet social distancing rule, we felt that it would be difficult for players in these programs to adapt to that rule and still have a fun season.  Additional details about next steps, including net refunds, will be communicated to impacted families by June 1, 2020.

We will continue to monitor additional developments related to Youth Sports and COVID-19.  If we are able to move into additional phases of our Return to Play Plan, we will communicate, update our Social Distancing Policy, request acknowledgement and update our website.

What about league game play?  The Boys Lacrosse Program league, Youth Lacrosse Minnesota (YLM), is still willing to have games if future MDH guidelines allow, even if the game format changes slightly to accommodate reduced participants on the field.  YLM currently plans to make a go/no-go decision around summer league play by June 15, 2020.  The Girls Lacrosse Program league, Minnesota Schoolgirls Lacrosse (MSLAX) did cancel league play already; however, if the YLM is able to organize games, MSLAX may reconsider and organize league games as well.  If no league game play is organized this summer, we will continue to do group training in accordance with City of Edina and MDH social distancing guidelines.

Will there be refunds for the programs that are continuing?  Our season has changed in response to COVID-19.  We incurred some sunk costs before the first Stay at Home Order was declared.  Uniforms for most programs were already in manufacturing.  Coach development had already started.  Plus, we incurred the City of Edina $30/player Braemar Annual Fee.  But, we may see some overall cost savings tied to the delayed season, field fees, tournament fees and/or league fees.  As we have communicated previously, rest assured we will process net refunds to true-up to total actual program costs once we have a clear picture of our full season, even though our Refund Policy indicates otherwise.  We will share more details once finalized.   If you would like scholarship assistance due to COVID-19 financial impacts, please contact us at edinayouthlacrosse@gmail.com.

We appreciate your patience as we navigate the uncharted waters and buoys tied to the COVID-19 pandemic.  If you have any questions, please contact us at edinalacrosse@gmail.com.

Best to you and your families,
Edina Youth Lacrosse Association Board

RETURN TO PLAY PHASE 1 - VIRTUAL TRAINING 12U & 14U

UPDATE SENT TO REGISTERED FAMILIES ON 5/6/2020:

We truly hope you are all safe and well.  With the beautiful weather outside, it’s hard not be out on the lacrosse fields with you all!  We miss you!

Our Board of fellow parents and community members has been monitoring the status of the Minnesota Stay-at-Home Order, while staying in contact with the City of Edina Parks & Recreation and the Minnesota lacrosse leagues leadership.  The Minnesota Stay at Home Order is now in place through May 18th, and as a result, the City of Edina closed fields until further notice.  Currently, our leagues are still planning to support league game play this summer once state orders and fields open up.

As of today, we are still suspending the start of our on-the-field programming until organized sports are cleared to play on city fields.  However, we are hopeful we will be able to provide a lacrosse season this summer.  Here is a summary of our current plans by program:

  • Girls Programming:  should have started with some pre-season training in April

    • Great news!  Girls 12U and 14U will start structured at-home training led by Coaches Ashley Nelsen and Kelly Crampton next week.   More details will be coming this week from Hilary Santoni, our VP of Girls Programs.

    • Girls Kindergarten through 10U programming will be on hold until the Stay-at-Home Order and fields open up.  For now, just stay active - get outside at home and have fun, have a family member play catch with you, try some wall ball if you are able.  We did not want to add more self-led or structured virtual training to these younger age levels as families are doing so much already to manage a virtual school day.  Once the school year ends, if fields are not yet open, we will look at other options.

  • Boys 8U Travel, 10U, 12U, 14U:  should have started with practices this week

    • Great news!  Boys 12U and 14U will start structured at-home training led by Coaches Andy Lee and Mike Seaman next week.   More details will be coming this week from Tom Sarbaugh, our VP of Boys Programs.  Evaluations for team placement are on hold.

    • Boys 8U Travel and 10U will be on hold until the Stay-at-Home Order and fields open up.

    • We had planned to participate in a tournament or two this summer.   At this time, we have pulled our teams out of tournament play for safety reasons and due to the timing uncertainty ahead.  We will re-evaluate later on as conditions and tournament offerings change.

  • Boys Kindergarten & 8U House:  was not planned to start until early June; there may be no impact to this timing, but it is too soon to know

  • Safety Guidelines & Policies:  We expect there will be new safety guidelines and restrictions once organized sports are allowed to play again.  Our Board is working on documenting plans and policies that we will share with you once we are able to get out on the fields.

  • Uniforms:  For all programs except Boys Kindergarten & 8U House, uniforms had to be ordered and were in production before the COVID-19 pandemic was declared.  We are working on plans to get uniforms to you soon.

Due to the delay and reduction of the season so far in many of the programs above, rest assured we will process net refunds to true-up to total actual program costs once we have a clear picture of our full season.  More details will be shared once finalized.

We will keep you posted as decisions or plans change.  If you have questions, please contact edinayouthlacrosse@gmail.com.

Best to you all,
Edina Lacrosse Association Board

UPDATE SENT TO BOX LACROSSE FAMILIES, 4/1/2020:

We truly hope you are all safe and well and abiding by the Stay at Home order.  For those who work in health care and essential businesses, thank you for all you’re doing to continue to serve our community.  Thank you to our educators for launching and running the distance learning programs, and to those providing child care and meals for those in need.  We are eternally grateful to you and your families

Due to the current Stay at Home order, and abiding by CDC, MDH, Edina Public Schools and City of Edina guidelines, we are cancelling the remaining Boys Box Lacrosse Season, which was already slated to end by April 19th.  We were able to get some credits for cancelled field times and league fees, so we are able to offer a 50% refund of paid registration fees.  We will process the refunds starting this weekend.

  • If you would prefer to opt out of the refund and donate the proceeds to Edina Lacrosse for scholarships, equipment, or other needs to support our programs, please email your donation preference to edinayouthlacrosse@gmail.com by 10 pm CDT on Friday, April 3rd.  Edina Lacrosse Association is a 501c3 organization. Your donation will be tax-deductible, and we will send you a receipt for your tax purposes.

Summer Programming

At this time, it is too soon to know how the COVID-19 response will impact our upcoming summer programming, but right now, we are still planning on a summer program.  Rest assured, we will let you know as soon as we can if anything changes, particularly related to start dates.  We continue to monitor CDC, MDH, City of Edina, Edina Public Schools and our league recommendations as they evolve related to the COVID-19 spread.

We do know we will not be having our 12U/14U Preseason Clinics and Evaluations in April.  We will not reschedule the 12U/14U Preseason Clinic series.  However, we are still determining next steps with the 12U/14U Evaluations for team placement.

Stay Active

Due to social distancing recommendations, do not schedule your own lacrosse practices or games with other players.  You can work on your lacrosse skills by yourselves though (e.g., wall ball, playing catch with your sibling or parent, staying active with biking, walking your dog, etc.).  Be safe and stay well!  Follow us on Facebook or Twitter - we will share ideas there to keep you inspired.  Please follow CDC & MDH guidelines to protect yourselves and our community.

Community Helpers

Both the Edina Community Fund and Edina Education Fund have opportunities for supporting those in more need due to COVID-19.  Also, the City of Edina is maintaining a web page of helpful resources.  Please visit their websites for details.

UPDATE SENT TO REGISTERED FAMILIES ON 3/23/2020:

We truly hope you are all safe and well.  The past week has been a time of transitioning to home-bound life, social distancing and gearing up to start e-learning.  For those who work in health care and essential businesses, thank you for all you’re doing to continue to serve our community - we are eternally grateful to you and your families.

We have received a few questions about our upcoming summer programming, so we wanted to send a quick update.  At this time, it is too soon to know if/how the COVID-19 response will impact our upcoming summer programming, but right now, we are still planning on a summer program.  Rest assured, we will let you know as soon as we can if anything changes, particularly related to start dates.  We continue to monitor CDC, MDH, City of Edina, Edina Public Schools and our league recommendations as they evolve related to the COVID-19 spread.  ELA’s Board of fellow parents and community members will make decisions with the highest priority placed on the safety of our players, families, coaches and community members.  As a non-profit organization, our programming fees align with the costs to deliver the programs, and thus we will be able to address refunds once the summer program plans are confirmed.  If you have questions, please contact edinayouthlacrosse@gmail.com.

Current Programming

Edina Lacrosse Association has no active programming at this time.  Boys Box Lacrosse practices and games were suspended at least through April 3rd.  Any additional impacts will be communicated directly to participating families before April 3rd.
